idea task 2

For task 2 my first idea i wanted to do was to bring my grandma into the studio and put rollers and and headscarf round her head to make her look like they did in the 70,s. we tried this at first but it didn’t look like i wanted it to so i just scraped that  idea and just did a normal portrait shoot but try and show her personality through the photos.

Evaluation (overall unit 6)

I think overall on unit 6 I could of worked more independently as I think I stuck to working with with my friends. As I got to the end of task 2 I think I slaked on work because I thought I had alot of time left to complete the unit so I left it for abit until the last minuet and before I knew it, it was the deadline date. I think if I didn’t leave it for so long I could of had it done before the deadline date with time to spare. I also think that i didn’t work to my full potential on task 2 as i concentrated more on task 1.

Group evaluation (task 1)

In my group there was Me,Calista,Georgia and autumn. the fruit we chose was a lime as we thought that was the most colorful/vibrant fruit. As a team i think we worked well as we are all close friends so it made it easier to agree on ideas for shoots. one of are tasks was to go up to coperation park and take pictures of are chosen fruit up there. as it was winter and it had been snowing it was very cold and I struggled  to take pictures with my group as I wasn’t in the mood to take pictures and I just wanted to go back to college. what  I should of done is got on with the task and I shouldn’t of dragged my team down by not doing the work to my best ability. other than that i think we came up with some good ideas and came out with some good final pieces.

task 2 (second shoot)

For this shoot I used natural lighting from the window in the studio. I used a black backdrop as i just wanted it to be a simple background. looking back at the pictures I think i should of used a lighter background colour as the black backdrop blended in with autumn hair which made her look bald.

Mary ellen Mark

Mary Ellen Mark is an American photographer known for her photojournalism, portraiture, and advertising photography. She has had 16 collections of her work published and has been exhibited at galleries and museums worldwide.

Mark utilises a wide range of film cameras, in various formats from 2 ¼ inch square, 35 mm, and 4×5 inch view camera, using Kodak Tri-X black-and-white film.

i really like Mary’s work as the pictures tell a story about each person. i also like how the people in the images are not ‘pretty’ and there gritty and it shows a harsh reality.

Arnold Newman

Arnold Abner Newman was an American photographer, noted for his “environmental portraits” of artists and politicians. He was also known for his carefully composed abstract still life images.

i like Newman’s images as they are unique and he used some interesting techniques to create an original photo that ive seen no other photographer do.

Richard Avedon

Richard Avedon was an American fashion and portrait photographer.
I dont really like Avedons work personally as it hasn’t got an intriguing aspect to it. the models themselves dont have an intriguing aspect to them as they are boring.other than that the style of his work is and technique is ok.

Irving Penn

Irving Penn was an American photographer known for his fashion photography, portraits, and still lifes. Penn’s career included work at Vogue magazine, and independent advertising work for clients including Issey Miyake, and Clinique.Penn was among the first photographers to pose subjects against a simple grey or white backdrop and he effectively used this simplicity.

i really like Penns work as each one of his pictures tells a story.
